Rolling, roll in, roll on. The same but always different – that’s the mighty Bass Clef, who reels in his kin to celebrate the release of his third long player, the highly recommended Reeling Skullways on Punch Drunk. Join BC for a huge but intimate live show that will have him and his guests playing music from way, way, way out of their skins. In the raw flesh Bass Clef is a tasty live act, kicking up the dust with his analogue gear and live instruments and getting the floor into a locked down and open-to-influences groove, bouncing and grinding out trks that move the heart and foot.
Ralph Cumbers aka Bass Clef has been unnervingly productive recently, laying down solo and collaborations on tape and 12” under numerous different guises, many on his own Magic + Dreams cassette label. The music has seen him delve deep and weird with Ekoplex, modular and zonal with Some Truths, uplifting and rave-wards with the Bass Clef 12” Rollercoasters Of The Heart and backwards and forwards with Coseph Jonrad. His sought after mixes have flown the afro-disco flag which, via the world of deliciously un-smooth groove, brings us to the NEW album, its title lifted from the lysergic prose of a Brian Aldiss novel. Reeling Skullways features understated textured 4×4 journeys into the heart of dance, trks that hum and hiss with machine-soul reflecting some key techno/house influences as well as emotional soundtrack pieces too. Reeling Skullways fashions new tricks from old books.
London’s own Raime, currently brooding on their debut album for label Blackest Ever Black after an amazing year, 3 12″s, seminal live gigs, and a handful of ultra-rare cd and dvd releases, will be playing a DJ set. As per their recent much-loved Boiler Room set you can expect an immaculate selection of pioneering jungle, skewed dancehall records and slices of leftfield techno.
Bugs, a modern day Bristol legend and MD of BugBrand, builder of modular synths and pedals and all manner of gizmos, will be performing a very rare live set on his custom set-up based around his own modular synths. Tonight he’ll be freed up to explore the more dancefloored and 4/4ed end of his sound. See… It Can Be Done, But Only He Can Do It.
Rounding out the bill wil be a special guest appearance DJ set from Ralph LTF, aka half of Wifey LDN, seminal East London club night and radio show, covering bases from house to bassline to garage to UK Bass or whatever we’re calling it this week…
