Shangaan Electro mastermind Nozinja is taking over Birthdays, Dalston on July 12th for an impromptu basement club session: welcome to NOZINJA LODGE.
First guest checking in at the Lodge – in a super rare London appearance – is Daphni aka Dan ‘Caribou’ Snaith. A longstanding fan of Nozinja’s one-of-a-kind productions, he also releases the second in a series of Shangaan 12”s – Tshetsha Boys ‘Bafana Bafana’/’Dyambu’ – on his Jiaolong label the same week.
In the past decade Nozinja has produced, self-released and distributed countless tapes, CDs and DVDs for the South African market, launching hit acts such as BBC, Tshetsha Boys and Nkata Mawewe alongside solo projects under various alter-egos. He is the architect of the hyper-accelerated, synth-heavy sound propelled by four-to-the-floor beats and repitched vocal samples dubbed ‘Shangaan Electro’, a style that provides the irresistable soundtrack to rammed out weekly dance parties in Soweto.
Tonight he serves up a selection of the freshest Shangaan tracks in stripped-down, soundsystem-ready form. Cue breakneck BPMs, rhythmic ping-pong and general dancefloor pandemonium.
