PLAYPEN is an evening of artfully engineered chaos taking over the auditorium: a lo-fi, hi-jinks meta-gig in which a plethora of quick fire, energising music and audio-visual interventions flow round the space in a blur of ever-shifting performance dynamics.
Artists getting caught in the three hours of crossfire include Pop Group frontman and legendary Bristol music provocateur Mark Stewart: US free improv/blues/punk solo guitar channeller Bill Orcutt: Young Echo no-fi dub upsetter Ossia: multi-tasking drum lothario Alex Neilson (Trembling Bells/Death Shanties): NYC vocal virtuouso and highly-charged performance artist Colin Self: many-tentacled Mancunian psych collective Gnod: Southend industrial shape-shifters Liberez: Bristol’s out-jazz miscreants The Evil Usses: protractor-defying art/rock upstarts The Jelas: new Anglo-Japanese percussive riot Kakure Baba: chance encounters with 16mm projection and looped tape from Attacked By Wolves’…and lord only knows what from XXX Tippex.
